Installing a closet rod isn't difficult. Determine where you want the rod and carefully measure to insure proper placement. Typically, the closet rod is mounted 12 inches from the back of the closet, but you may want to take a clothes hanger and holding it as if it were hanging, find the ideal distance. When installing your closet rod you will be using open or closed face mounting flanges. You may use two open flanges together for easy removal of the closet rod, two closed flanges to prevent removal of the closet rod, or one open and one closed. Below are examples of open and closed flanges. ![]() When installing flanges with screws, carefully measure and mark where the flanges will be positioned. ![]() Flanges with pins are made for use with pre-drilled closet systems, typically called "European" closet systems. The 32mm positioned mounting pins allow the flanges to be easily positioned and re-positioned without screws. When securing flanges that require screws, be sure that the mounting surface is sturdy enough to hold the screws tight and bear the weight of the closet rod fully loaded. Flanges are ideally screwed onto a solid wood surface. Two open flanges are used to allow easy removal of the closet rod. Measure and mark the locations of the flanges and secure them to the mounting surface. The closet rod can be easily lowered into place. ![]() Two closed flanges are used to prevent removal of the closet rod. ![]() One of each flange is an option that allows a single person to easily install the closet rod and also prevent easy removal of the rod. ![]() |
